Pros: Tells you the name of the opening that youre using, lots of play levels. Thats helpful. Cons: Interface is clumsy. 12 Levels of Easy and no other playing levels? Why not 4 Easy, 4 Medium, and 4 Hard? Suggestions: Please, developer, dont make me press 3 buttons to start a new game. Just let me click "New Game". Dont ask "Do you want to play with the white pieces?" when I hit "Game". Just start the game. Put the player color choice in the options menu. And please, go get a copy of Modern Chess Openings, and put more openings in the database. I KNOW its the Sicilian: now tell me which variation.

It keeps me entertained. Challanging.

I owned This program when I had my Palm V. I always missed this program when I switched PDAs. Finally they have CG for iPhone! Initially the graphics were not so good but now it is the same as the Palm. It is 2D and very easy to play. There are quite a few levels that will give you a great challange and fun. For hand held devices this is my favorite Chess program. You will not regret buying this program. Developer, please update the pictures you put for the intro since the CG looks much more handsome. My only wish is there will be a mac version of my favorite desktop chess program Fritz.

Far and away the best chess app if you want to learn how to play!!!!

Finally! An update!!! Yayyyy! Back to five stars... (prev review) My numerous requests for added features have been ignored. All things that competition already has... I wont mention them because I want u to believe this review is authentic. Great app, but dont expect any updates.... Ever.

This is the best Ive got. If something comes up that is better than this one Ill be very surprised. The easy levels are fun to play with and play with fewer errors than previous Genius programs. This one beats or equals anything.

Ok I bought this for 8$ thinking this is the strongest chess app out there. So I decided Id put it up to the test! I played chess genius on the hardest and longest game possible and played against the SHREDDAR app! It takes the "genius" about 5 minutes per move and shredder takes about 20-30 seconds!!! So I played them against each other and shredder won EVERYTIME!!! I wasted my money so please get shredder and dont waste yours!!!!!

Once i updated nothing else works im stuck on what ever settings i had. Please update the app

Love this app and play against it every day. An excellent learning tool to have on your phone.

Gameplay strength improvements and iphone 5 screen utilization.. Not as strong as stockfish or hiarcs and rareky updates.

This is a terrible app.I could only play one game and there are no icons to start another game or to make any adjustments.It a bit better on the iPhone,I give this app a zero.

i wrote my first review for chessgenius in 2008. at that time i was new to iphone. the most recent app update compliments my 6 Plus hardware and continues to deliver challenging chess. this chess app is one of a small group of chess apps that i use frequently.

Best and easy

A long time and loyal Richard Lang fan. The author will be in the chess programmers Hal of Fame if they ever create one. His chess programs dominated the chess programming world in the late 80s and early 90s. All the best Richard! Ps one of the few chess apps that display the board/menu correctly while using hotspot.

Chess Genius is a great app. On my iPhone 6s when playing strength is set to "instant" and permanent brain off, CG beats Hiarcs set to 2300 on my iPad Air 2. One area of improvement might be to adjust the playing level options or dynamically adapt the level descriptions to the power of the CPU/GPU because the first level after easy is now master on the latest iPhone. Thanks for all the hours of chess fun and learning.
